The Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, China’s highest political advisory body, launched its annual session on Wednesday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The opening meeting marked the beginning of the fourth session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee. President Xi Jinping attended the gathering alongside senior leaders Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi, and Han Zheng.

Their presence highlighted the importance of the session, which plays a central role in consultation and consensus-building within China’s political system. At the meeting, delegates reviewed and approved the agenda, setting the framework for discussions in the days ahead. This approval provided a clear roadmap for the work of the advisory body during the session. Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a detailed work report on behalf of the Standing Committee. His report outlined achievements from the past year and emphasized priorities for the future, reflecting the CPPCC’s ongoing role in shaping national policy.

Shi Taifeng presided over the session, ensuring the smooth conduct of proceedings. Meanwhile, He Baoxiang presented a report on how political advisors’ submissions had been addressed since the last session in March 2025, underscoring the body’s responsiveness to member concerns. Figures released during the meeting showed that the CPPCC received 5,992 proposals over the past year. Of these, 5,061 were accepted for processing, with a response rate of 99.9 percent. These numbers highlight the advisory body’s efficiency and commitment to incorporating diverse perspectives into policymaking. Beyond the statistics, the session also featured contributions from political advisors across different sectors.

Their participation reinforced the CPPCC’s role in strengthening democratic oversight and encouraging broad-based consultation. In addition, the military band of the People’s Liberation Army performed at the opening ceremony, lending a sense of formality and tradition to the proceedings. Meanwhile, journalists from across the country covered the event extensively.

Their reporting reflected the CPPCC’s importance as a bridge between the Communist Party of China, the government, and various social groups. Delegates are expected to deliberate on major national issues, provide policy recommendations, and contribute to China’s governance and development. The CPPCC continues to serve as a vital institution for fostering dialogue, building consensus, and advancing the country’s long-term goals.
