The National Association of Trial Judges of Liberia (NATJL) on Sunday held an Intercessory and Thanksgiving Service at the Stephen Trowen Nagbe United Methodist Church in Sinkor, bringing together members of the judiciary, government officials, legal practitioners, and other distinguished guests. The service was organized in honor of the leadership, committee heads, and members of the Association, and served as a moment of spiritual reflection and prayer for wisdom and guidance in the discharge of their judicial duties.
In a special statement delivered during the service, the President of NATJL Judge Ousman Feikai emphasized that the gathering represented a spiritual reaffirmation of the judiciary’s commitment to uphold justice, the rule of law, and the rights of the Liberian people. He noted that judges and magistrates carry enormous responsibility in the administration of justice and therefore require integrity, courage, wisdom, and divine guidance in fulfilling their mandate. The NATJL President Feikai also outlined several key initiatives being undertaken by the current leadership to strengthen the Association and improve the welfare of its members. Among these are the decentralization of the Association’s operations to ensure greater inclusion and responsiveness to judges and magistrates across the country.
He further disclosed that efforts are underway to digitize the Association’s programs, including its loan and insurance schemes, with the reconstruction of the NATJL website to accommodate various activities and services for members. According to him, discussions are also ongoing with the Administrator of the Supreme Court of Liberia to enroll members of the Association into the Legal Power of Attorney (LPA) Program introduced by the Government of Liberia through the Civil Service Agency—an initiative aimed at improving the financial wellbeing of members.
Additionally, the Association plans to introduce a modern accounting software system that will enhance financial management, strengthen internal controls, and promote greater transparency and accountability. Addressing committee heads and members, the NATJL President called for diligence, discipline, and results-oriented performance in implementing the Association’s programs, stressing that the success of the leadership will be measured by tangible achievements. He also expressed appreciation to the pastors, officers, and congregation of the Stephen Trowen Nagbe United Methodist Church for hosting the service and standing in prayer with Liberia’s judiciary community.
The Association further thanked invited guests, members of the legal community, civil society organizations, and government officials for their continued partnership in strengthening the justice system. The NATJL President concluded by calling for unity within the Association following its recent elections, urging members to work together in building a stronger and more effective organization that advances the welfare of all members, particularly magistrates who constitute the majority of the Association.
