SThe World Bank has commended Liberia’s Ministry of Public Works for effectively implementing development projects in Nimba County following a tour of project sites across the region. Speaking with journalists in Ganta, Dr Zarau Wendeline Kibwe, the World Bank Executive Director representing Liberia and other African countries, praised the government and the Ministry of Public Works for the proper use of allocated funds, describing the progress as encouraging.“We are pleased with what we have seen,” Dr. Kibwe said.
“The effective use of resources gives us confidence to support more projects in Liberia, based on requests from the Ministry. ”He made the remarks after visiting model schools in Ganta and Tappita, which he described as key investments in the country’s future. For his part, Public Works Minister Roland L. Giddings expressed gratitude to the World Bank for its continued support for Liberia’s development. He urged citizens and stakeholders to better showcase government achievements, noting that development efforts are often underreported.
Giddings highlighted improvements in road infrastructure, stating that travel between Ganta and Tappita has significantly improved, reducing travel time and enhancing mobility.“We must appreciate our partners, especially the World Bank, and the government for these gains,” he said. Giddings reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to expanding road connectivity nationwide, describing infrastructure development as a top priority of the government to ease transportation for citizens.
Meanwhile, addressing concerns about unpaid teachers at the model schools, Deputy Minister for Economic Management at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP),Dehpue Zuo described the situation as part of an early administrative phase. He assured that steps are being taken to resolve the issue and improve the system. Zuo emphasized the long-term benefits of the initiative, particularly in science education. “Training science students from grades 10 to 12 will increase the number of skilled professionals and drive economic growth,” he said.
