35-Year-Old Woman Drowns in Creek in River Gee County

Authorities in River Gee County are reporting the tragic death of 35-year-old Beatrice Quayee, also known in the community as “Finish Fine,” who drowned in a creek in Gbeapo Kanweaken over the weekend. According to accounts from friends and relatives, Quayee had been living with epilepsy and resided in Gbeapo Kanweaken with her boyfriend, popularly known as “Opa,” who is reported to have mental health challenges. The couple lived modestly, with Quayee often earning an income by washing clothes for residents in the community. Police and eyewitness accounts indicate that on the day of the incident, Quayee had gone to the creek to wash her own laundry. While at the water’s edge, she reportedly experienced an epileptic seizure, which caused her to lose balance and fall into the creek. With no one present at the time to assist, she drowned. A passerby later discovered her body and immediately reported the matter to River Gee County Coroner, Derrick P. Keah. Local authorities, including police officers and community members, responded promptly to the scene. A 15-member coroner’s jury was convened to examine the body and establish the cause of death. Following a careful inspection, the jury reported no signs of foul play or physical violence. Based on their findings, officials confirmed that the death was accidental, resulting from drowning brought on by a medical episode. Quayee’s remains were subsequently released to friends and family for burial, in accordance with local customs. Community members described her as hardworking, friendly, and well-known for her resilience despite living with a chronic health condition. Local authorities have extended their condolences to the family and used the occasion to raise awareness about the dangers posed to individuals with medical conditions, especially when engaging in activities near bodies of water. They urged residents to exercise caution and, whenever possible, avoid being alone when performing potentially risky tasks. The River Gee County Police Commander emphasized the importance of community vigilance, noting that timely assistance in such situations can mean the difference between life and death. This tragic incident has left many in Gbeapo Kanweaken mourning the loss of a beloved neighbor and friend, while reinforcing the need for stronger community support systems for individuals living with chronic illnesses or disabilities.
