Buildup to Historic Groundbreaking of Overpass Bridges in Monrovia

The Ministry of Public Works, through its Special Project Implementation Team (SPIT), in partnership with the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and the Liberia National Police (LNP), on Tuesday, August 19, conducted a comprehensive on-site tour of the sites for the Two China-Aid Overpass Bridges along Tubman Boulevard. The tour forms part of ongoing preparations leading to the official groundbreaking of Liberia’s first-ever overpass bridges—an historic project aimed at easing traffic congestion, improving road safety, and enhancing the overall flow of transportation along one of Monrovia’s busiest corridors. Participants in the tour included the Chief of Traffic and technical team of the Liberia National Police, engineers of CRBC, and the Ministry’s Special Project Implementation Team, along with Assistant Minister for Design and Supervision, Mr. John Zoegar. Speaking during the exercise, the LNP Chief of Traffic, Mr. Alphanso Bindah, reaffirmed the police’s strong commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Public Works and CRBC to ensure safety and smooth traffic management throughout the construction period. The contractor, CRBC, in collaboration with the Ministry and the LNP, has developed a comprehensive traffic management plan to safeguard local communities, protect the environment, and guarantee orderly implementation of the project. According to SPIT Coordinator, Mr. Immanuel Freeman, the joint field exercise underscores the Ministry’s proactive approach in preparing for the groundbreaking of this landmark infrastructure development. “By engaging the Liberia National Police and all relevant stakeholders, we are laying the groundwork for a safe, orderly, and people-centered execution of this project,” Mr. Freeman stated. This project marks a milestone in Liberia’s infrastructure journey, reaffirming the Ministry of Public Works’ commitment to advancing the national development agenda under the leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai. The Ministry assures the public of continued progress toward modern, reliable, and safe road networks for the benefit of all Liberians.
