House of Representatives Elects New Sergeant-at-Arms and Deputy Chief Clerk

The House of Representatives has elected Tuah K. Woods Ross as Deputy Chief Clerk and Morris Gibson as Sergeant-at-Arms, filling vacancies created by the deaths of two senior House  officers in 2025. The elections were conducted during the 5th day sitting regular sitting of the House to replace the late Brigadier General Martin Johnson, former Sergeant-at-Arms, and Commicks Chea, Deputy Chief Clerk.

For the position of Deputy Chief Clerk, Montserrado County Electoral District #5 Representative Priscilla Cooper nominated Tuah K. Woods Ross. Following the nomination,  Montserrado County Electoral District #1 Lawmaker, Rugie Barry made a  motion  to close nominations and was adopted by  the body. Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon then designated Bong County Electoral District #6 Representative Moima Briggs Mensah to cast a white ballot on behalf of the House. Ross was subsequently declared elected.

Madam Ross was sworn into office shortly after the announcement. Members of the Women’s Legislative Caucus accompanied her during the ceremony. In brief remarks, she thanked members of the House for their confidence and pledged to serve with professionalism and commitment. The House later proceeded to elect a new Sergeant-at-Arms. Montserrado County Electoral District #7 Representative Emmanuel Dahn nominated Morris Gibson for the position. A motion to close nominations was raised by Sinoe County Electoral District #3 Representative Alex Sundayboy Noah and was adopted by the body.

Speaker Koon designated Grand Gedeh County Electoral District #2 Representative Jacob Debee to cast the white ballot. Following the vote, the Chief Clerk announced Gibson as the elected Sergeant-at-Arms. Gibson replaces the late Brigadier General Martin Johnson, who died in Accra, Ghana, in 2025 after a prolonged illness. The elections restore full leadership to key administrative offices of the House as it continues its legislative work.
