Lawmakers Urged to Sponsor At-Risk Youths

The Executive Director of the National Rehabilitation for War and Drug Affected Persons has appealed to each member of the National Legislature to take up the sponsorship of ten disadvantaged youths at any rehabilitation center in the country. Retired Lieutenant Colonel Augustine Nagbe said Liberia would go a long way in the rehabilitation of disadvantaged youths if each of the lawmakers can follow the good example of Montserrado County Senator, Darius Dillon, who has established a rehabilitation center for purposely to rehabilitate at risk youths Lt. Col Nagbe made the call when the National Rehabilitation for War and Drug Affected Persons did a preview of a movie produced by disadvantaged youths to media practitioners on the Borough of New Kru Town on the Bushrod Island during the weekend. 

According to him, the institution is currently providing three  of the 25KG bags of rice and 30,000 Liberian Dollars to feed over 250 at rick youths currently undergoing rehabilitation at his center on a daily basis The institution is also providing training in carpentry, driving, soap science, computer software, baking and industrial security for those who are nearing completion of their rehabilitation in preparation for reintegration into the Liberian society. The retired Lieutenant Colonel explained that he is also personally sponsoring over 20 youths who have resolved to go the academic schools on the Borough. 

He expressed disappointment in many members of the national legislature fore not given serious attention to the issue of at risk youths Nagbe also expressed regret lot of government officials and international nongovernmental organizations for not assisting these youth during festive seasons He commended the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia, Major General Davidson Forleh, who donated over 20 bags of rice and a purse for soup kind, and the Ministry of Youths and Sports, which presented 200,000 Liberian Dollars, bags of rice and flour for the up-keeping  the youths. Commenting on the movie, Nagbe explained that the film, entitled: 

“Return of the King’s Son,” was produced based his desire to open another avenue of training for the youths Lt. Col Nagbe is therefore appealing to the President Joseph Boakai for support to institutions giving rehabilitation to at risk youths in the country which are said numbering over 300,000 throughout the country by the United Nations Children Fund Recently, the Bishop of the United Methodist Church , Samuel Quire, predicted that these disadvantaged youths will stage a coup if care is not taken in the near future because of their organized structures President Boakai also declared the issue of drug abuse by disadvantaged as a national emergency and set up a national anti-drug task force; but, since the launching of the national plan of the task force nothing has been heard towards assisting institutions rehabilitating disadvantaged youths
