A major investment opportunity appears to be on the horizon for Grand Bassa County as Superintendent Karyou Johnson led a high-level Korean delegation on a guided tour of potential tourism sites in the historic City of Edina over the weekend. The delegation, headed by Mr. James Juhee Han, Chief Executive Officer of MAKE Group of Companies โ€“ Korea, explored various locations identified for future tourism and hospitality investments. The visit forms part of a broader initiative to strengthen bilateral economic relations and expand Liberiaโ€™s emerging tourism sector.

The exploratory mission aligns with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.โ€™s development vision under the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), which prioritizes tourism as a critical driver of job creation and local economic empowerment. The governmentโ€™s plan to establish a National Tourism Board has already sparked interest among international investors, with the MAKE Group leading the charge from South Korea. Superintendent Johnson, welcoming the delegation, described Edina as a hidden gem rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. He underscored Grand Bassaโ€™s readiness to embrace sustainable tourism investment, highlighting the countyโ€™s peace, stability, and welcoming business climate.

โ€œEdinaโ€™s landscape, beaches, and cultural heritage make it an ideal destination for eco-tourism and resort development,โ€ Superintendent Johnson stated. โ€œWe are prepared to work with our international partners to unlock the full potential of this great city.โ€ Speaking through an interpreter, Mr. Han expressed confidence in Liberiaโ€™s investment environment, revealing that MAKE Group had conducted feasibility studies in the country for over three years. He added that the company is now mobilizing other Korean investorsโ€”including Han and Brothers and ALLFORLAND Groupโ€”to participate in developing Grand Bassaโ€™s tourism infrastructure.

During a brief welcome ceremony, Edina City Mayor Lady M. Benson disclosed that more than 100 acres of land have been earmarked to accommodate future development projects. She emphasized that the initiative would bring tangible benefits to local residents through job creation, community projects, and improved social services. The visit marks a promising step toward transforming Edina and Grand Bassa into a vibrant tourism hub, attracting global attention and stimulating sustainable development.
