In a move aimed at bolstering transparency and accountability within the House of Representatives, Hon. Musa Hassan Bility has written a communication to the plenary of the House of Representatives, requesting to expand the scope of the ongoing financial audit to encompass the years 2018-2025. The current audit, initiated by the House Committee on Public Accounts, is focused on the period from 2022 to 2024.

Hon. Bility’s communication, delivered to the plenary session, underscores the importance of a comprehensive review of the House's financial operations between 2018 and 2024. His argument centers on the necessity of a broader time frame to ensure the audit reflects the true spirit of accountability and facilitates a complete assessment of the House of Representatives' financial practices.  “The years 2018 to 2021 are particularly crucial for any meaningful assessment of the House’s financial operations,” Hon. Bility stated in his appeal to his colleagues.

“To omit those years from the audit would significantly undermine the credibility and completeness of the process.” Bility's strong assertion highlights the conviction that a selective audit, limited to the years 2022-2024, risks providing an incomplete and potentially misleading picture of the House’s financial history. According to Hon. Bility, the move underscores the importance of a thorough and transparent audit process in ensuring good governance. Hon. Bility’s call for a widened audit of the House's finances, covering the years 2018-2021, underscores his commitment to transparency and accountability.

The move, seen as a step towards stronger financial governance, aims to offer a more thorough view of past spending, boosting credibility, promoting accountability, and fostering public trust. After deliberation, the plenary of the House of Representatives took a decision to send the communication to the House's Committee on Public Accounts for review, and if approved, it would mark a significant commitment to transparency within the House.
