The Officer-In-Charge of the Financial Intelligence Agency of Liberia (FIA), Hon. Mohammed Ali Nasser, has acquired specialized training at an international Leadership Conference held by the Egmont Centre of Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) in Switzerland. The international Leadership Conference, organized under the theme “Back to the Future,” was a colorful event planned by the Egmont Centre of FIU Excellence and Leadership (ECOFEL) in collaboration with the Money Reporting Office in Bern, Switzerland. It took place from October 14–15, 2025.
The Egmont Centre of FIU Excellence and Leadership is an organization established by the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) to provide specialized training and support to FIUs worldwide. Its mission is to build the capacity of FIUs to combat financial crimes like money laundering and terrorist financing through programs like training, mentorship, and assistance. The conference aimed to highlight the role of FIUs in transformation in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI), cryptocurrency, and digital disruption.
It served as a platform for brainstorming on how Financial Intelligence Units shall adapt, innovate, and lead in this rapidly changing landscape. Speaking upon his arrival in Monrovia, FIA OIC Nasser explained that the conference was designed for Heads and Deputy Heads of FIUs, including the decision-makers who are shaping the future of financial intelligence around the globe. He noted that only 75 seats were available for participants, and Liberia was selected for one of them. This selection signals Liberia’s growing influence and recognition in global financial intelligence discussions.
According to Nasser, Liberia’s participation in the conference, which was attended by over 150 countries, as one of the outstanding decision-makers in the fight against financial crimes, money laundering, and terrorist financing, demonstrates that the FIA-Liberia is working effectively to protect the global financial system. Nasser lauded the Egmont Group for the specialized training provided to FIA Liberia to help the country in the fight against financial crimes. On the sidelines of the conference, OIC Mohamed A. Nasser interacted with the Head of the Egmont Group and Chair of Financial Intelligence Units around the World, Mrs. Elżbieta Franków-Jaśkiewicz. Meanwhile, the conference brought together several top-notch FIU leaders from around the world, including the FIA Officer-In-Charge.
