Liberia on Wednesday observed its 56th National Youth Day in the port city of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, under the inspiring theme “Recognizing the Gains and Building Resilience for Liberia’s Future.”
The event brought together hundreds of young people and key stakeholders in the youth sector, including representatives from all fifteen counties, government officials, and international partners. The day was highlighted by the launch of the 2025 National Youth Policy and Action Plan, a comprehensive five-year framework aimed at empowering Liberia’s youth and advancing sustainable national development.
Serving as Guest Speaker, Hon. Madia H. Peters Magbolleh encouraged young Liberians to take proactive steps in driving positive change and contributing meaningfully to their communities. She emphasized that personal development and collective national growth are inseparable, urging youth to remain focused on education, innovation, and community service.

“Young people must begin to take charge of their own future by engaging in constructive initiatives that promote growth, peace, and unity,” Hon. Magbolleh stated. “I remain committed to supporting young Liberians in their personal and professional development, and I urge the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure Youth Day celebrations leave a lasting impact on the next generation.”
In his remarks, Youth and Sports Minister, Hon. Cllr. Jeror Cole Bangalu, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to youth empowerment. He announced plans for a more inclusive and meaningful observance of Youth Day in the coming years, particularly by engaging disadvantaged and marginalized communities in future celebrations. “We must celebrate our youth not just with words but through action,” Minister Bangalu noted. “The National Youth Policy and Action Plan is a living document that reflects the Government of Liberia’s unwavering support for the growth, inclusion, and innovation of our young people.”
The colorful celebration was graced by dignitaries and representatives from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Local Government Authorities, the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY), and the Liberia National Students Union (LINSU), among others.

National Youth Day, also recognized globally as International Youth Day, serves as a reminder of the crucial role young people play in national and global development. It underscores their potential, the challenges they face, and their shared responsibility in shaping a more prosperous and peaceful Liberia.
As Liberia looks toward the future, the launch of the 2025 National Youth Policy and Action Plan marks a new chapter in ensuring that the voices, talents, and aspirations of young Liberians remain at the heart of national progress.
