In a powerful address delivered at Carleton University’s Leadership, Environment, and Gender Equity Forum, Madam Jallahqueena Hawa Konneh, Liberia’s Trade and Investment Representative to Canada, underscored the importance of international cooperation in fostering sustainable development and inclusive growth between Liberia and Canada.Speaking to an audience of distinguished professors, scholars, students, and honored guests, Madam Konneh emphasized the unique role of the Office of Liberia Trade and Investment in Canada.
Though not a diplomatic mission, the office serves as Liberia’s primary conduit for trade, investment, and development engagement in Canada. She highlighted its mandate, as directed by His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., to promote bilateral partnerships, support innovation and entrepreneurship, and amplify Liberia’s visibility as a destination for responsible growth.“Our office exists to connect,” Konneh stated, “to bring together Canadian investors, educators, innovators, and Liberia’s enterprises—turning opportunities into partnerships that lift communities in both countries.”
The evening was further elevated by the presence of Dr. Augustine Konneh, Senior Advisor to the President of Liberia, who joined as a special guest speaker. Madam Konneh praised Dr. Konneh’s participation as a testament to Liberia’s commitment to learning, dialogue, and collaboration on global challenges such as leadership, environmental stewardship, and gender equity.“Dr. Konneh represents not only government leadership,” she said, “but a vision—one where academia, trade, and policy intersect to drive progress.
”Madam Konneh also lauded Carleton University for its global outlook and enduring engagement with African scholarship. She noted that institutions like Carleton play a vital role in shaping a more equitable and sustainable world, and that forums like this one are essential in advancing shared human aspirations.“As we engage in tonight’s conversation,” she concluded, “may we remember that leadership, sustainability, and equity are not isolated ideas—they are a collective responsibility.” She concluded with a call to action for deeper collaboration and enduring relationships between Liberia and Canada, aiming to empower both nations for generations to come.
