Liberian striker Peter Wilson capped a record-breaking debut season with Oakland Roots SC by clinching the 2025 USL Championship Golden Boot.
Wilson secured the top scorer title with 18 goals, finishing one ahead of Charleston Battery’s Cal Jennings. The 29-year-old sealed the prestigious award on the final day of the regular season, contributing a goal and an assist to the Roots’ dominant 3–0 victory over Lexington SC.
Wilson's performance was more than just league-leading; it was historic for the club and the league: He is the first Oakland Roots player to earn an individual league award since the club joined the USL Championship in 2021.
Wilson set a new club record with 23 total goal contributions (goals and assists combined) in his first year in the United States. He ended the campaign on a remarkable eight-game scoring streak, netting 11 goals during that run. This streak matched a USL Championship record last set in 2018. The forward showcased incredible consistency, averaging a goal every 124.4 minutes throughout the season.
