The Student Disciplinary Committee of the state-run University has opened up with grave concern, of viral videos and photographs circulating on social media depicting some students engaging in acts of vandalism on the university property at the Capitol Hill Campus.

The footage and image captured students intentionally defacing and willfully damaging  the university buildings at multiple locations on the Capitol Hill Campus, including the Graduate School and other university facilities  by splashing and smearing paint on the walls. According to the UL in a statement following the incident, which occurred Friday, January 9, 2026, these actions constitute deliberate destruction of institutional property and demonstrate a blatant disregard for the academic environment.

“The Student Disciplinary Committee condemns in the strongest possible terms these acts of vandalism, destruction of property, and graffiti-style defacement of university facilities, all of which are serious violations of the University of Liberia Student Handbook. Such conduct does not reflect the standards of discipline, responsibility, and civic-minded behavior expected of students of the University of Liberia, Liberia's premier institution of higher learning,” said the statement signed by Andrew K. Dear, Chairman of the UL Disciplinary Committee.

Accordingly, the UL intones that it will not tolerate vandalism, destruction of property, or any form of misconduct that undermines the integrity of the institution Actors To Face Probe In line with its disciplinary measures, the Committee has vowed to launch a thorough investigation to bring all actors to book. The Committee pointed out that any individual found to be in violation of the Students’ Handbook will be held fully accountable and will face the appropriate disciplinary consequences in accordance with university regulations. “The Student Disciplinary Committee calls on all students to conduct themselves with the highest level of integrity, maturity, and respect for university property, and to serve as positive ambassadors of the institution.

The University of Liberia expects its students to demonstrate constructive, lawful, and responsible behavior that upholds the dignity, values, and reputation of the University at all times.” The Student Disciplinary Committee has meanwhile reaffirmed its commitment to preserving discipline, safeguarding University property, and ensuring that the University of Liberia remains a respected center of academic excellence and responsible citizenship.
