The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Public Works, has announced the rollout of a comprehensive alleyway investigation and opening exercise aimed at improving access and restoring order in communities across Montserrado and Margibi Counties. The announcement was delivered by Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah during the regular Thursday press briefing on April 2, 2026.
According to the Ministry, the initiative is designed to enhance community accessibility by reopening blocked alleyways, developing layout diagrams, and identifying illegal encroachments that have hindered movement within densely populated areas.

The exercise is also expected to improve urban planning and increase mobility across affected communities. Officials emphasized that the operation will be conducted in phases and will target communities experiencing severe alleyway degradation. Residents are being urged to remain patient and cooperative as the government works to address longstanding infrastructure challenges.
The Ministry released the following timeline for alleyway investigations and openings:

* Thinker’s Village, Union Avenue (Paynesville)— April 6–11* New Covenant Baptist Church Community (Paynesville)— April 13–18* Parker Paint Community (Paynesville City)— April 20–25* Wowins Town, Pipeline Road Community, Block B (Paynesville City)— April 27 – May 2
Upcoming Phases (May–June 2026)

The Ministry further clarified that all requests for alley investigations will now be handled through this structured, community-based approach rather than individual submissions.
This initiative forms part of the government’s broader effort to improve urban infrastructure, ensure orderly community development, and enhance the quality of life for residents across Liberia’s most populated counties.
