MONROVIA, Liberia – The Liberia National Police (LNP), in partnership with the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), on Friday, June 5, 2026, successfully concluded a two-day Media-Police Partnership Training aimed at strengthening collaboration between journalists and law enforcement officers while promoting responsible public safety reporting and national security awareness.
The training, held at the Liberia National Police Headquarters in Monrovia under the theme “Strengthening Police-Media Partnership: Understanding Police Administration for Responsible Public Safety Reporting and National Security,”** brought together 40 journalists accredited to the LNP and key police personnel for intensive discussions on police administration, security operations, crisis communication, and ethical reporting standards.
Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions designed to enhance journalists’ understanding of police procedures and improve communication between the media and law enforcement institutions. The initiative also focused on addressing misinformation, strengthening transparency, and fostering mutual respect between the two professions.
Speaking during the closing ceremony, LNP authorities reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to building a stronger relationship with the media, noting that accurate and balanced reporting plays a critical role in maintaining public trust and supporting national security efforts.
A major highlight of the program was the fulfillment of a commitment earlier announced by Acting Inspector General of Police William K. Mulbah, who disclosed during the opening session that accredited police reporters would receive protective equipment to enhance their safety while covering demonstrations, emergencies, and other security-related events.
As part of that commitment, the Liberia National Police donated a set of safety and identification materials to journalists accredited to the institution. The items included *protective helmets, LNP-accredited media jackets, and official LNP media identification tags.
The safety gear is intended to provide additional protection and easy identification for journalists operating in potentially hazardous environments while carrying out their professional duties.
Press Union of Liberia President Julius Kanubah lauded the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward improving police-media relations and promoting professional journalism. He encouraged participants to apply the knowledge acquired during the training and continue upholding the principles of responsible, fair, balanced, and accurate reporting.
For their part, participating journalists expressed appreciation to the Liberia National Police for the opportunity and the practical support provided through the donation of safety equipment. They noted that the training enhanced their understanding of police operations and strengthened channels of communication between the media and law enforcement.
The successful conclusion of the workshop marks another milestone in ongoing efforts to build trust, cooperation, and professionalism between the Liberia National Police and the media, with both institutions pledging to work together in the interest of public safety, accountability, and national development.
