The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Liberia says it has been alerted to the circulation of a social media statement falsely attributed to Amb. Lewis Brown, which purports to condemn recent military actions in the Middle East and pledge support to the Islamic Republic of Iran. In a Statement, the Government of Liberia categorically denied that this statement is from Ambassador Lewis Brown, and wishes to made it abundantly clear that the statement is fabricated, and wholly inconsistent with Liberia’s foreign policy and diplomatic practice.
It says, as a Non-Permanent Member of the United Nations Security Council, Liberia works closely with its African partners within the A3 framework to promote common African positions on matters before the Council. The release further noted, Liberia has only spoken once as part of the A3 statement made at the UNSC session on February 28, 2026. Liberia has issued no other statement from Monrovia (headquarters) or from the Permanent Mission in New York. It maintained that the fake statement being circulated strongly contradicts Liberia’s foreign policy position.
"Such statements are not only reckless, but are dangerous to Liberia and Liberians at home and abroad". "The Government of Liberia calls upon those carrying out such dangerous acts against the country to desist; and wishes to inform that the law will take its course when such individuals are identified. Security Personnel are actively investigating the source of the fake statement". "We however call upon all Liberians, Media Institutions and others to kindly verify such statements before circulating them" the Statement concluded.
