Ministry of Justice Officially Launches 2026 National Security Retreat in Margibi County

The Ministry of Justice has officially launched the 2026 National Security Retreat at the Royal Ambassador Hotel in Lower Margibi County, convening senior officials and key stakeholders from Liberia’s security sector to address emerging national and regional threats.

The three-day high-level retreat brings together heads of security institutions, law enforcement agencies, policymakers, and strategic partners to assess the country’s current security posture and develop coordinated responses to evolving risks.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Acting Head of Cabinet and Minister of Justice, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, emphasized the critical importance of the retreat at a time when Liberia faces increasingly complex security challenges.

Minister Tweh cited transnational crime, cybercrime, climate-related instability, organized criminal networks, and cross-border threats as growing concerns requiring urgent and unified national action. “Liberia’s security environment is evolving rapidly. Our response must be proactive, intelligence-driven, and coordinated across all institutions,” Minister Tweh stated.

Acting under the directive of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., the Justice Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the nation’s security framework, defense mechanisms, and law enforcement capacity through inter-agency collaboration and policy reform. He further stressed the importance of maintaining national sovereignty, democratic governance, and public safety, noting that sustainable peace and stability remain central to Liberia’s development agenda.

Minister Tweh urged participants to take full advantage of the retreat by engaging in frank, solution-oriented, and action-driven discussions, calling for the formulation of a clear, realistic, and results-based security action plan. “This retreat must produce practical outcomes, strategies that translate into real protection for our citizens and long-term national stability,” he added.

The 2026 National Security Retreat is expected to conclude with a comprehensive roadmap outlining priority interventions, institutional reforms, and collaborative strategies to strengthen Liberia’s overall security architecture.
