Grand Kru County Senator Numene T. H. Bartekwa has craved the Liberian Senate to begin a process leading to the de-ratification of the Hummingbirds Resources Inc. Contractual Agreement with the Government of Liberia(GoL). Senator Bartekwa, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Concessions and Investment, points out that the operations of the company are deceitful, criminal and unwarranted and as such, it does not deserve a concession with Liberia.
In a communication to the President Pro-tempore of the Liberian Senate, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, the Grand Kru County Senate averred that the company misled the government and people of its capacity and pretentiously entered into a Mineral Development Agreement (MDA) with the government of Liberia since 2019 to carry out Mineral exploration and mining, when it did not have the capacity to do same. Geographically, the agreement with this company covers Sinoe, Grand Kru and RiverGee Counties. Because of the economic challenges of the people in the three counties, he pointed out that they were highly excited and even danced in their respective communities, towns and villages when they heard that a new company called Hummingbirds was in the making.
"Very unfortunately, after the acquisition of the mineral development agreement from the government of Liberia in 2019, the company immediately departed the country and only occasionally visits the country and thus leaving the government and the people of the three counties in a complete state of oblivion," wrote Sen. Bartekwa. He furthered that it’s disheartened that Hummingbird Resources Liberia’s MDA with the Government of Liberia is in its briefcase and walking around with it on the Stock Exchanged Markets on the streets of New York, thereby preventing other companies from coming in.
"Natural Resources Concession and Investment committee and the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Petitions to invite the Minister of Mines and Energy the Chairman of the National Investment Concession and the Director General of the National Bureau of Concession to inquire from them why Hummingbird Resources Liberia Inc. has not started operation after acquiring its concession from the Government of Liberia since publication into handbills on April 10, 2019." "I beseechingly request that if there is no justifiable reason for which the company has not started its operations, the agreement should be deratified in order to give other interested investors the opportunity to forge partnership with the government for the counties named above. ,"
