Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Thomas P. Fallah, accompanied by Hon. James M. Kolleh, Chairman of the Committee on Rules, Orders, and Administration, and a number of members of the 55th Legislature, today conducted an inspection visit to the main chamber of the House of Representatives, currently undergoing a significant renovation. The visit, which took place on Monday, August 4, 2025, underscores the House’s commitment to transparency, modernization, and ensuring a conducive environment for effective legislative work. The inspection is part of ongoing efforts to supervise the progress and quality of the renovation work, which is being overseen by the General Services Agency (GSA) in collaboration with local contractors. During the tour, the delegation of lawmakers walked through the partially completed chamber, observing key upgrades in structural design, electrical wiring, ventilation, seating arrangements, and technological enhancements. According to engineers on site, the renovations aim to modernize the chamber to meet international parliamentary standards, with improvements focused on durability, functionality, accessibility, and digital connectivity. Speaking during the visit, Deputy Speaker Fallah emphasized the importance of the renovation project, noting that the main chamber is the central nerve of legislative proceedings and must reflect the dignity and efficiency of the House of Representatives. "This chamber is not just a place for debate; it symbolizes our democracy, our commitment to good governance, and the voice of the Liberian people,” Hon. Fallah stated. “This renovation is long overdue, and we are pleased with the level of progress being made. We will continue to monitor it closely to ensure that it meets both technical and quality standards." Hon. James M. Kolleh, whose committee plays a critical role in administrative oversight within the House, also praised the progress made so far. He reaffirmed the Legislature’s resolve to complete the renovation in a timely manner, adding that the updated infrastructure will enhance the effectiveness of legislative operations. "We are committed to transforming the Legislature into a more functional, people-centered institution," Hon. Kolleh said. "This is not just about new paint and chairs—this is about building a chamber that supports transparency, inclusivity, and better service delivery to our citizens." The lawmakers were also briefed by the project engineers on the timeline for completion, challenges faced, and remaining phases of the project. According to the construction team, barring unforeseen delays, the renovated chamber is expected to be completed and operational before the end of the current legislative session. Members of the House expressed optimism about the project’s benefits for both legislators and the general public. Several emphasized that the renovation will not only enhance physical infrastructure but also boost legislative morale and public confidence in the institution. This inspection visit is one of several planned monitoring activities as the 55th Legislature works to ensure full accountability and transparency in the execution of the project.
