The Ministry of Health (MOH)through the National AIDS Control Program (NACP), is set to roll out a nationwide Hepatitis-B Awareness and Free Testing Campaign targeting employees across Government Ministries, Agencies, and Public Corporations. The campaign, which will be coordinated and supervised by the NACP, aims to raise public awareness about Hepatitis-B, promote early testing and access to treatment, and reduce the public health burden posed by this life-threatening viral infection. Under the theme “Hepatitis Can’t Wait – Love Your Liver and Live Longer,” the initiative will deliver on-site educational sessions and voluntary Hepatitis-B testing to government institutions, ensuring that civil servants and public sector employees have access to life-saving information and health services. In a statement issued by the Ministry, officials emphasized that early detection of Hepatitis-B is essential in preventing liver-related complications such as cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer. The campaign is also aligned with Liberia’s broader commitment to viral hepatitis elimination under the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. "Knowing Your Hepatitis Status Can Save Lives," the Ministry stated, encouraging all government employees to participate in the free testing and become ambassadors for Hepatitis-B awareness in their communities. Hepatitis-B is a silent but deadly disease, often showing no symptoms until it has caused serious liver damage. According to global health data, millions of people worldwide are living with chronic Hepatitis-B without knowing it making mass screening a critical public health tool. The Ministry of Health urges all heads of Ministries, Agencies, and Corporations to support the smooth implementation of the campaign by allowing health teams to conduct testing and awareness activities at their respective institutions. This initiative forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Liberia’s healthcare system through proactive disease prevention, early diagnosis, and increased public engagement on health matters. The MOH and NACP remain committed to protecting the health and wellbeing of the Liberian workforce and call on all government employees to take advantage of this free, accessible, and life-saving service.
