The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has marked a significant achievement with the successful completion of the Gap Community Electrification Project (G-CEP) in Unification Town, Harrisburg. This milestone underscores LECโ€™s ongoing commitment to expanding electricity access to underserved communities. The G-CEP is a strategic, self-funded initiative led by LECโ€™s Management Team, aimed at connecting communities previously left out of the initial electrification efforts. To date, the project has connected approximately 17 communities, including: ๐„๐‹๐–๐€ 1. Zeon Town ๐‰๐Ž๐‡๐๐’๐Ž๐๐•๐ˆ๐‹๐‹๐„ 2. New Israel Community 3. Established in 2017 to resettle residents from environmentally hazardous areas during the Mount Coffee Hydropower Plant rehabilitation, the townโ€™s population of approximately 275 people now benefits from reliable electricity. The electrification project began on April 17, 2025, and was completed on July 22, 2025, with an investment of US$68,926. Execution was overseen by LECโ€™s Department of Planning, Engineering, and Major Connections under the leadership of Executive Director Engr. Dele Shobayo, with supervision from Deputy Managing Director for Technical Services, Hon. Mohammed L. Sow. To support local enterprise, LEC contracted WFSG Electrical Company, which successfully connected 32 homes in Unification Town, plus two additional connections in Raymond Camp. Some homes remain pending internal wiring to meet LECโ€™s connection standards. Gap Community Electrification Manager Dickson Varney and Project Lead Francis T. Williams confirmed that the project turnover ceremony to the Department of Operations/Transmission and Distribution will be scheduled soon as part of the projectโ€™s formal closure. During LECโ€™s special night-time broadcast, Town Chief Abraham Gbanjah expressed deep gratitude to the Government of Liberia and LEC. He recalled President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr.โ€™s 2024 visit to Mount Coffee, where the president promised to electrify the community as part of Liberiaโ€™s energy development initiatives. Mr. Gbanjah praised WFSG Electrical Company for its professionalism and extended thanks to the LEC Management Team, led by Managing Director Hon. Mohammed M. Sherif, for the transformative impact electrification has had on the quality of life in Unification Town.
