The Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) wishes to inform the general public that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit of the 21st Engineer Battalion will carry out a one-day demolition exercise of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) on Wednesday, 23 July 2025, between the hours of 0800hrs to 1400hrs (8:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M.). The exercise will take place in the vicinity of the Edward Binyah Kesselly (EBK) Military Barracks. This planned operation is part of the AFL’s continuing efforts to safeguard communities by clearing potentially hazardous UXO materials from isolated and populated areas across Liberia. The demolition process is critical to ensuring public safety and minimizing the risk of accidental detonation of old military explosives. During the demolition, residents of nearby communities including Boys Town, Schiefflin, and Duazon, as well as commuters along the Roberts International Airport (RIA) route, are advised that loud explosions may be heard. The AFL assures the public that there is no cause for alarm. The operation will be conducted by trained professionals under strict safety protocols. To further ensure the safety of the public, fishermen and residents of the EBK Military Barracks are strongly advised to avoid the EBK Barracks’ Lagoon area during the demolition window from 8:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on the scheduled day. The Armed Forces of Liberia appreciates the cooperation of all residents and commuters during this exercise. We urge the public to remain calm and follow any additional safety instructions provided by AFL personnel during the operation. This exercise reflects the AFL’s continued commitment to national security and public safety through professional and responsible ordnance disposal operations.
