Gov’t Denounces Malicious AI Video Claiming Pres. Boakai Criticized U.S. President Trump

The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), has strongly condemned the circulation of a fabricated video on social media platforms purporting that President Joseph Nyuma Boakai expressed dissatisfaction with U.S. President Donald J. Trump for publicly praising his eloquence and command of the English language. Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Minister of Information Hon. Jerolinmek Piah firmly dismissed the video as false, misleading, and maliciously created using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. He emphasized that the video does not represent the views or statements of President Boakai and should be regarded as a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and sow discord. “We want to make it categorically clear that the content of the video is entirely fictitious,” Minister Piah stated. “It was fabricated using AI technology by individuals or groups whose sole intent is to undermine the integrity of the President and destabilize Liberia’s strong diplomatic relations.” Minister Piah further clarified that President Boakai and President Trump have no known disagreements and maintain a cordial and respectful relationship. In fact, he noted that during a recent visit to Washington, D.C., President Boakai was warmly received at the White House, where President Trump commended him for his eloquence, diplomatic leadership, and impressive command of the English language. “The idea that President Boakai would take offense at being praised is completely illogical and baseless,” Piah added. “This government views such recognition as a testament to Liberia’s global image and the President’s longstanding reputation as a statesman.” The Ministry of Information has called on the Liberian public, media outlets, and members of the diaspora to remain vigilant against disinformation and to refrain from sharing unverified or manipulated content online. Minister Piah also confirmed that the Ministry is working with relevant national and international cybercrime and security agencies to trace the origin of the video and take appropriate legal action. In closing, Minister Piah reiterated the Boakai administration’s commitment to transparency, press freedom, and responsible digital engagement. “Liberians must rise above the politics of division and deception,” he said. “We urge everyone to join us in promoting truth, unity, and the values that safeguard our democracy.” The Government encourages citizens to report false or suspicious media content to the MICAT tip line or through official communication channels.
