LDEA Nimba County Detachment Arrests 22-Year-Old with 3KG of Marijuana Valued at US$300

The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Nimba County Detachment, has arrested 22-year-old Carleus Nuah for illegal possession of a significant quantity of marijuana. The arrest took place on Friday, July 11, 2025, at approximately 12:00 noon at the Bahn Checkpoint in Nimba County. Suspect Nuah, a Liberian national, was intercepted while traveling from Wea Beeplay to Saclepea City. Upon routine inspection at the checkpoint, LDEA officers discovered 3 kilograms of marijuana concealed in his belongings. The seized substance has an estimated street value of US$300, equivalent to LRD 58,500. Following his arrest, the suspect was immediately taken into custody and subjected to formal investigation. Based on the evidence gathered, Carleus Nuah was charged with illegal possession of narcotic drugs, in violation of Liberia’s amended drug law, which criminalizes the unauthorized handling, distribution, and transportation of controlled substances. The suspect has since been forwarded to the Bahn City Magisterial Court for further judicial proceedings. The LDEA has assured the public that the legal process will follow due course as part of its mandate to ensure transparency and accountability in drug-related prosecutions. Speaking on the matter, the Commander of the LDEA Nimba Detachment reaffirmed the agency’s unwavering commitment to the fight against drug trafficking and abuse. “This arrest is part of our ongoing operation to stem the flow of illicit drugs into our communities, especially in vulnerable rural areas where access to law enforcement has historically been limited,” he said. “We want to make it clear that no individual is above the law, and those who choose to engage in illegal drug activities will be pursued and prosecuted.” The LDEA continues to work collaboratively with community members, local leaders, and partner institutions to ensure a drug-free Liberia. The agency encourages residents across Nimba and the nation at large to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious drug-related activities through its confidential hotline at 0777-133-333. “The public’s cooperation is essential to our success,” added the Commander. “Together, we can protect our youth, safeguard our communities, and dismantle the networks that profit from the destruction of lives.” As Liberia intensifies its efforts to combat narcotics-related crimes, the LDEA calls on all citizens to join the national campaign against drug abuse. With ongoing enforcement operations and community outreach, the agency aims to create a safer and healthier environment for all Liberians.
