The Board of Commissioners of the Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) has commenced a week-long study tour of the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) of Tanzania. The program officially began today, September 1, 2025, at EWURA’s headquarters in Dodoma.

According to a release from LERC’s Communication Department, the visit is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Liberia’s electricity regulatory framework by drawing on international best practices. The engagement will focus on exchanging experiences and knowledge in electricity regulation, as well as exploring potential areas of collaboration between the two institutions to improve services for electricity consumers.

During the opening session, EWURA Director General, Dr. James Andilile, expressed his institution’s readiness to work with LERC by sharing technical and operational expertise. He emphasized that effective regulation is key to ensuring electricity utilities deliver greater benefits to consumers.

For his part, LERC Chairman, Cllr. Claude J. Katta, highlighted the significance of the visit, noting that as a relatively young institution, LERC stands to benefit greatly from EWURA’s wealth of experience and its strong reputation in regulating the energy and water sectors in Tanzania. He reaffirmed LERC’s commitment to enhancing its regulatory programs to meet the growing needs of Liberia’s energy sector.
