In a groundbreaking announcement that signals a major step forward for Liberia’s agricultural transformation, Dr. Alexander Nuetah, Minister of Agriculture, has confirmed that 288 modern agricultural machines are expected to arrive in the country by August 2025. Speaking on The CLASS Reloaded, Dr. Nuetah who leads the agriculture component of President Joseph Boakai’s ARREST Agenda shared that this monumental equipment delivery is part of a Chinese government grant, secured during a high-level bilateral meeting between President Xi Jinping of China and President Boakai on September 6, 2024, at the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing. Dr. Nuetah stated that the advanced machinery will be strategically deployed in agricultural zones across five counties to dramatically increase domestic food production, reduce Liberia’s import dependency, and modernize farming practices.
“This is not just about machines,” Dr. Nuetah emphasized. “This is about transforming rural economies, empowering farmers, and delivering on President Boakai’s promise to make agriculture a powerful engine of inclusive growth.” Direct Grain Planters; rice seedling transplanters; mini-combines and harvesters; tipper trucks; paddy field bund/ridge makers; front end loaders; rotovators; tractor wagons; 65 hp tractors; lowbed trailers; boom sprayers. These machines are designed to improve planting efficiency, reduce labor burdens, and boost crop yields in rice, grain, and other staple crops central to Liberia’s food security strategy. The Chinese government will also dispatch a team of technical experts to Liberia upon delivery of the equipment. These professionals will provide: Installation and commissioning guidance; Operational and usage training; Routine maintenance support; Troubleshooting and diagnostics. Assistance.
Furthermore, China has committed to offering a one-year warranty from the date of arrival for all 288 machines, ensuring sustained performance and maximum utility for Liberia’s farming communities. Dr. Nuetah clarified that this delivery of 288 agricultural machines is entirely separate from the 287 yellow machines for road infrastructure, also expected later this year. “The two initiatives are part of our broader effort to rebuild Liberia’s economy from roads to rice fields and President Boakai is delivering on both fronts,” he said. This agricultural machinery boost directly supports the ARREST Agenda President Boakai’s flagship development policy focusing on Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism. With agriculture as a central pillar, the government aims to increase food self-sufficiency, reduce post-harvest losses, and promote mechanized farming. “We are entering a new era of agriculture in Liberia,” Dr. Nuetah declared. “Our farmers will no longer be left behind. These machines will not sit in warehouses they will be working in the fields, changing lives and communities.” The Ministry of Agriculture will soon announce the selected counties and beneficiary cooperatives that will receive the equipment. Additional partnerships with local universities and technical institutes are being explored to ensure knowledge transfer and long-term sustainability. As Liberia prepares to receive this unprecedented investment in its agricultural sector, the government urges farmers, cooperatives, and agribusiness stakeholders to get ready to fully utilize these modern tools in shaping a more food-secure future.
