The Liberia National Police (LNP) has confirmed the arrest of one of its officers, Sergeant Abdullaziz S. Kromah, in connection with the shooting of a civilian in Brewerville, Montserrado County. According to the LNP, the incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, August 31, 2025, between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. at the Iron Gate checkpoint in Brewerville. 

Sergeant Kromah allegedly discharged a firearm, injuring a civilian identified as Hassan Carter. Police disclosed that Sergeant Kromah, a member of Class 45 with ID #5766 and assigned to the Kpaykor Police Station in Brewerville, was off duty at the time of the incident. Preliminary investigations revealed that the weapon used did not belong to him but was registered to Inspector Monica J. Sesay, ID #3603, of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU). 

The victim, Carter, was rushed to the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. Police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Cecelia G. Clarke said Sergeant Kromah has been placed in custody while a full-scale investigation is underway. She stressed that the Liberia National Police remains committed to accountability and transparency. “No officer will be shielded from responsibility, and the public will be kept fully informed as the investigation progresses,” Clarke stated.
