In a significant display of diplomatic relations and commitment to development, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai joined U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Joseph Zadrozny, Peace Corps Liberia Country Director Vernice Guthrie, and Liberia’s Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah to officially welcome seven new Peace Corps Volunteers to Liberia in a ceremony celebrating international partnership and community development. The event, held in Monrovia, highlighted the enduring relationship between Liberia and the United States, with President Boakai emphasizing the importance of collaboration in education and public health. “These Volunteers represent not only service, but solidarity,” he said. “Their presence here strengthens the bonds between our nations and brings renewed energy to our shared goals.” Over the next two years, the Volunteers will work alongside Liberian educators and health professionals in schools and rural health centers across the country. Their focus will include co-teaching math, science, and literacy, training teachers, promoting maternal and child health, and supporting community-led initiatives. Chargé d’Affaires Zadrozny, himself a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, reflected on the personal and national significance of the program. “Peace Corps service is a bridge between cultures, built on mutual respect and learning,” he said. Since its inception in Liberia in 1962, the Peace Corps has deployed more than 4,300 Volunteers to the country, contributing to education, health, agriculture, and youth development. The arrival of this new cohort marks another chapter in a legacy of service and partnership. Peace Corps Liberia Country Director Vernice Guthrie noted, “These Volunteers are joining a long tradition of meaningful work. Their impact will be felt not just in classrooms and clinics, but in the hearts of the communities they serve.” The ceremony concluded with a call to action for continued collaboration and a shared commitment to progress. As Liberia continues to invest in its future, the Peace Corps remains a steadfast ally in building capacity and fostering hope.
