The Mayor of the Monrovia City Corporation, Hon. John-Charuk Siafa, on Monday July 28, 2025, held a productive bilateral discussion with a top-ranking city government delegation from Jinhua City, People's Republic of China. The District Governor of Jinhua, Mrs. Hu Yuxian, is leading the Chinese delegation for the historic diplomatic meeting with the city government of Monrovia. The visit aims to foster collaboration between the city of Monrovia and Jinhua in key areas including; Economic and Trade ties, Culture and Tourism , New and clean energy and other strategic areas of mutual interest between the City of Monrovia and China's Jinhua city. The visit to the City Hall commenced with an official reception Ceremony at the entrance of the Monrovia City Hall where the visiting Chinese delegation was received by Mayor John-Charuk Siafa, together with senior staff of the corporation. The Mayor presented the Key of Monrovia to Mrs. Yuxian, symbolizing the official welcoming of the Chinese delegation to the city of Monrovia which was followed by a Bilateral Engagement Session between both sides in the Mayor's Conference room. Mayor Siafa led the discussions where he pushed for potential collaboration and investments in key areas that could spur the economy. The Mayor advanced the need for investments that would seek to address the city's aging infrastructure challenges, unregulated urban issues, youth unemployment as well as investments that could help to alleviate the environmental issues with waste management across the city. "We are grateful for your presence here today, It is our hope that our partnership will help us to address these challenges while looking at the opportunities ahead." "Along these lines, I hope we can collaborate meaningfully and strategically to achieve results in a few areas". The Mayor informed the delegation that Liberia has a friendly business climate' citing the country's free trade zones and favorable investment incentives offered by the National Investment Commission ( NIC). Mayor John-Charuk Siafa, also facilitated an investment dialogue session between members of the Liberia Chamber of Commerce and the Chinese delegation, allowing Liberian businesses to explore partnership opportunities with Chinese firms. During the discussion, the Lord Mayor was officially extended an open invitation by Governor Jinhua for the Mayor to visit Jinhua in November this year to participate in an upcoming trade and investment summit. Meanwhile, Mayor Siafa has designated a team to work with the Liberia Chamber of Commerce to ensure that Liberian businesses are not left out of the impending trade and investment summit to Jinhua in November. For her part, Governor Jinhua extolled the Mayor for the Warm welcome and assured that she would convey the message of investment opportunities in Liberia. She expressed hope and optimism that Chinese investors will visit Monrovia to take advantage of the immense investment potential of Liberia.
