The National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC-Liberia) is pleased to announce the successful completion of the first phase of a comprehensive digital communications training program for ten of its staff members. The program, conducted over the past eight weeks at BlueCrest University in Congo Town, concluded on Friday, July 25, 2025. Participants included eight staff from NEC’s Communications and Data Sections, along with two Live Broadcast personnel. The training focused on key areas essential to modern electoral communication, such as social media management, video editing, content creation, and website management. The aim is to enhance the Commission’s capacity to communicate more effectively with the public and stakeholders using digital platforms. This initiative is a critical component of the Liberia Electoral Support Project (LESP), funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and co-funded by the European Union in Liberia, Irish Aid, the Embassy of Sweden in Monrovia, and UNDP Liberia. Speaking during a visit to the final training session, UNDP–LESP Chief Technical Advisor Katherine Green expressed her satisfaction with the progress made by the participants. She noted that the knowledge gained will significantly improve NEC’s ability to deliver timely, transparent, and accurate information during the electoral process. “We are proud to see this kind of investment in human capacity. The partnership between NEC and BlueCrest University is already yielding promising results,” Green stated. “This training will not only improve NEC’s digital communication capabilities but also strengthen public trust and transparency in future elections.” The second and final phase of the program will commence shortly and will include on-the-job training for the participants over the next eight weeks. This phase is designed to provide practical application of the skills learned, allowing staff to directly integrate digital tools and techniques into NEC’s daily operations. NEC Chairperson, Davidetta Browne Lansanah, expressed gratitude to the development partners for their continued support and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to building a more effective and transparent electoral communication system. The NEC remains dedicated to using innovation and training to ensure that Liberians receive timely and credible information, especially as the country prepares for future electoral exercises.
