The Womenโ€™s Legislative Caucus of Liberia (WLCL) has expressed profound appreciation to the Governments of India, Brazil, South Africa, and to UN Women, for their invaluable partnership and support towards the official launch of a $1 million Project: Women Legislators in Liberia โ€“ Promoting Voice, Leadership, and Gender-Responsive Governance for Sustainable Development (2025โ€“2027).

In a statement of appreciation following the launch on Tuesday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, WLCL Chairperson Hon. Ellen A. Attoh Wreh hailed the initiative as a โ€œgroundbreaking milestone in strengthening womenโ€™s leadership, advancing gender-responsive governance, and creating sustainable pathways for inclusive development in Liberia.โ€ The project is funded through the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Fund and coordinated by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation.

It will be implemented over the next 18 months by UN Women Liberia, in partnership with the WLCL. Key focus areas include strengthening the Womenโ€™s Legislative Caucus, advancing gender-responsive legislation and budgeting, and community empowerment through adult literacy, digital and financial skills training, entrepreneurship, and agricultural value chain development. Additional components will include collaboration with national institutions such as the National Elections Commission and Law Reform Commission, the launch of a legislative internship program for young women, and South-South learning exchanges with India, Brazil, and South Africa.

Hon. Attoh Wreh reaffirmed the Caucusโ€™ commitment to ensuring the success of the project, stressing that it will โ€œnot only amplify womenโ€™s voices in governance but also contribute to building a more inclusive, democratic, and prosperous Liberia.โ€ The Womenโ€™s Legislative Caucus extended once again its gratitude to all partners for their continued support in advancing womenโ€™s empowerment and leadership in Liberia.
