The Liberia National Police (LNP) has announced the official departure of the first batch of 30 officers to Kigali, Rwanda, for specialized training at the Rwanda National Police Academy. The deployment is a direct outcome of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2024 between Inspector General Hon. Gregory O. W. Coleman of the Liberia National Police and Inspector General Felix Namuhoranye of the Rwanda National Police.

The agreement set the stage for robust collaboration in the areas of capacity building, professional development, and knowledge exchange. According to the LNP, the training program in Kigali will focus on enhancing officers’ professionalism, operational effectiveness, and institutional discipline, ensuring that Liberia’s police force is better prepared to address contemporary security challenges. The initiative also aims to promote exposure to international best practices in law enforcement, community policing, and crime prevention.

Inspector General Coleman described the program as a “milestone in the transformation agenda of the LNP,” adding that the officers are expected to return with advanced skills that will contribute to strengthening public safety, building trust, and improving service delivery across Liberia. “The Liberia National Police remains deeply committed to building a strong, professional, and people-centered institution,” Coleman said. “This partnership with the Rwanda National Police is a demonstration of our belief in international cooperation and the value of shared experiences.” The training initiative comes at a crucial time, as Liberia continues to strengthen its law enforcement institutions in support of national peace, security, and the rule of law.

The program is part of a larger framework of cooperation between the two police institutions, which also includes joint training, technical exchanges, and institutional support. The LNP reaffirmed its commitment to fostering international partnerships that help advance policing standards in Liberia. It expressed confidence that the collaboration with Rwanda will yield long-term benefits, not only for the institution but for the Liberian public at large.
