The Proposed People’s Action Party (PAP), a new and dynamic political movement in Liberia, has announced the appointment of Mr. Ahmed K. Sirleaf as its Acting Chairman. The party, which is nearing completion of its certification and legal formalities with the National Elections Commission (NEC), is presenting itself as a broad-based platform dedicated to governance reform, youth empowerment, and socio-economic transformation. According to PAP officials, Mr. Sirleaf has been deeply engaged in activities designed to shape the foundation of the movement.
Just three weeks ago, he departed Liberia for consultations with institutions and stakeholders in Washington, D.C. and in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota on PAP-related matters. He is expected back in Liberia in early September to continue steering the party’s agenda and expanding its outreach. Mr. Sirleaf brings to PAP an impressive blend of academic excellence and professional experience. He is currently a doctoral candidate in Comparative and International Development Education (CIDE) at the University of Minnesota.
Prior to this, he earned a Master of Public Affairs (MPA) from the prestigious Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the same institution. He also holds a Master’s in Public International Law & the Settlement of Disputes from the United Nations-mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica, and a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies from Hamline University, Minnesota.
His academic work and professional practice cut across international human rights, transitional justice, post-conflict reconstruction, donor coordination, governance, and alternative dispute resolution all of which remain critical to Liberia’s ongoing democratic and economic recovery. PAP officials emphasized that Mr. Sirleaf’s appointment symbolizes the party’s commitment to merit-based leadership and its vision of harnessing the talents of a new generation of Liberians. “Mr. Sirleaf’s leadership marks a turning point for our movement.
His wealth of knowledge and global exposure will help us advance the aspirations of Liberians, particularly the youth, who are eager for transformative change,” a PAP statement noted. The Proposed People’s Action Party remains confident that under Mr. Sirleaf’s stewardship, the movement will emerge as a credible political force committed to building a transparent, inclusive, and accountable Liberia.
