The Asset Recovery and Property Retrieval Taskforce (AREPT) on Tuesday, September 23, hosted a three-member delegation from the International Monitoring Fund (IMF) - led by Resident Representative to Liberia Joel Chiedu Okwukei - to explore opportunities for collaboration aimed at strengthening asset recovery and promoting transparency. During the meeting, Cllr. Edwin Kla Martin, Chairperson of AREPT, briefed the IMF delegation on the Taskforce’s operations, its mandate, and the processes involved in tracing, recovering, and safeguarding public assets and properties.
The discussion highlighted AREPT’s ongoing collaboration with government agencies, private sector actors, and international institutions. The dialogue also focused on AREPT’s successes in asset recovery, as well as the challenges. Chairperson Martin emphasized the importance of partnerships with international financial institutions as a means to enhance AREPT’s capacity to recover assets both locally and abroad.
The IMF delegation expressed appreciation for AREPT’s achievements to date and pledged to review potential areas for future collaboration, underscoring the importance of continued engagement and knowledge-sharing between both institutions. AREPT regards the meeting as a significant step toward reinforcing cooperation with international partners, which is essential to the Taskforce’s mission of recovering stollen assets, ensuring accountability and curbing corruption.
