The opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has strongly denied allegations that firearms were discovered during the demolition of its former headquarters in Monrovia, describing the claims as baseless, politically motivated, and intended to tarnish the image of the party. Responding to recent reports, CDC Chairman Atty. Augustine J. Kowo stressed that the party has no connection whatsoever to the weapons allegedly found on the property.

He explained that before the demolition exercise, an official inspection was conducted by the sheriff’s office, which produced an inventory report confirming that no firearms or illegal items were present at the premises. “The Congress for Democratic Change categorically rejects these false and malicious allegations,” Chairman Kowo said. “The official record of inspection by the sheriff’s office is clear. There were no weapons found at our former headquarters prior to the demolition.

This story is nothing but a fabrication aimed at discrediting our party and misleading the public.” The CDC leadership described the allegation as part of a broader scheme to politically undermine the party and weaken its influence ahead of future national engagements. Chairman Kowo emphasized that the CDC remains committed to peaceful democratic processes and has always operated within the confines of the law.

“As a responsible political institution, the CDC has consistently demonstrated its dedication to peace, democracy, and the rule of law,” the statement noted. “We view these accusations as deliberate distractions designed to shift attention from the pressing issues facing our country.” The CDC called on the Liberian public, the media, and the international community to treat the allegation with the utmost skepticism and to rely on verified official records rather than rumors or politically inspired claims. The party further urged the government to desist from actions and statements that could heighten political tensions and instead focus on addressing the challenges confronting the Liberian people.
