Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti. Along with ECOWAS Vice President, Her Excellency Mrs. Damtien L. Tchintchibidja

ECOWAS Vice President, Her Excellency Mrs. Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, concluded a weeklong working visit to Liberia with a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Monrovia. The visit aims to assess ongoing and planned ECOWAS initiatives being implemented across Liberia, particularly in the areas of youth development, human capacity building, and regional integration. She was formally received by Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti. Minister Nyanti warmly welcomed Vice President Tchintchibidja and her delegation, expressing Liberia’s deep appreciation for the continued support and cooperation of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

She emphasized Liberia’s longstanding commitment to the regional body and reaffirmed the country’s readiness to strengthen joint efforts aimed at promoting peace, development, and stability across West Africa. “We are honored to welcome you and your delegation to Liberia,” Minister Nyanti stated. “ECOWAS remains a trusted partner in our national development journey, and Liberia is committed to fulfilling its obligations as an active member state while contributing meaningfully to the region’s shared priorities.” In her remarks, Vice President Tchintchibidja expressed gratitude for the warm reception accorded her by the Government and people of Liberia.

She highlighted that her visit seeks to review several ECOWAS-supported programs, including the establishment of the ECOWAS Youth & Sports Development Centre (EYSDC), which Liberia is preparing to host. She noted that her engagements would also cover interventions supporting human capacity development, social empowerment, and economic transformation. Vice President Tchintchibidja underscored Liberia’s strategic role in advancing ECOWAS’ broader mission and reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to ensuring that regional initiatives are effectively aligned with the needs of Liberians, especially young people. She stressed that youth remain the backbone of the region’s future workforce, leadership, and innovation, making programs such as the EYSDC crucial to regional development.

“Liberia remains a critical partner in the growth and stability of our region,” she said. “My visit is intended to strengthen our collaboration and ensure that the programs we implement here continue to respond to the aspirations of the Liberian people—most importantly, the youth whose potential drives our collective future.” Minister Nyanti reiterated that Liberia is fully prepared to host the offices of the ECOWAS Youth & Sports Development Centre, a flagship project designed to enhance youth skills, leadership, and innovation throughout the subregion. She confirmed that the Government of Liberia has already begun putting in place key measures to facilitate the successful establishment and operations of the center. “Liberia stands ready and fully committed to hosting the ECOWAS Youth & Sports Development Centre,” she reaffirmed.

“Winning the bid is a national achievement, and we are determined to ensure that the center becomes a hub of opportunity, empowerment, and regional cooperation for young people across West Africa.” She further emphasized that the center aligns with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s ARREST development agenda, which prioritizes youth empowerment, education, skills development, and human capital advancement. Liberia’s selection to host the ECOWAS Youth & Sports Development Centre reflects its increasing leadership within the regional bloc.

Once operational, the center will provide a wide range of programs, including vocational and technical training, entrepreneurship development, leadership coaching, and digital skills enhancement. Friday’s meeting concluded with both leaders expressing renewed commitment to deepening collaboration and accelerating the implementation of ECOWAS programs in Liberia. Vice President Tchintchibidja and Minister Nyanti voiced optimism for the continued strengthening of Liberia–ECOWAS relations and pledged sustained cooperation to drive inclusive growth across the region. The Vice President’s visit represents an important step in reinforcing Liberia’s partnership with ECOWAS, particularly in the areas of youth empowerment, human development, and regional integration.
