In a dramatic courtroom climax, a 12-man jury at Criminal Court “B” has unanimously found Sam Worlobah guilty of murder, ending a high-profile trial that exposed deadly deception in Liberia’s healthcare sector. Worlobah, who falsely presented himself as a certified medical doctor at the Lofa Medical Clinic, was convicted late Monday for the unlawful death of a young male under suspicious medical circumstances.
The jury returned a unanimous “GUILTY” verdict following hours of final arguments and deliberation. Investigations revealed that Worlobah had no formal medical training or registration with the Liberia Medical and Dental Council. Despite this, he performed critical procedures under false pretenses, ultimately leading to the patient’s death. Prosecutors described his actions as reckless, deceptive, and intentional.
The courtroom was tense as the jury foreperson announced the verdict, prompting emotional reactions from the victim’s family some weeping, others expressing relief that justice had prevailed. Presiding Judge Wesseh Alphanso Wesseh commended the jury for what he called a “careful and courageous decision.” Sentencing is scheduled for September 22, where Worlobah could face life imprisonment under Liberian law. Lead prosecutor Atty.
Andrew Tellewoyan hailed the verdict as a victory for the rule of law and issued a stern warning to institutions to vet personnel thoroughly, especially in sensitive sectors like healthcare. “This verdict sends a strong message to impostors: the justice system will not tolerate deceit, especially when lives are at stake,” Tellewoyan said. Defense lead lawyer Cllr. Sanny Carlor has announced plans to appeal the verdict to the Supreme Court of Liberia.
