The Liberia National Police (LNP) has confirmed the arrest of an auto rickshaw operator, popularly known as a Kekeh driver, following an incident in which he physically assaulted an officer of the Public Control Commission (PCC). The incident occurred in Monrovia when the PCC officer, engaged in official duties to ensure compliance with traffic and transport regulations, approached the operator for questioning. Instead of cooperating, the individual reportedly resorted to physical assault, endangering the safety of the officer and disrupting public order.

Following the assault, the LNP swiftly intervened and took the operator into custody. The individual is now being held at a designated police facility, where he will face legal proceedings in accordance with Liberian law. Authorities emphasized that acts of violence against law enforcement officers will not be tolerated. The LNP, in collaboration with the PCC, continues to maintain that all officers carry out their duties to ensure public safety, enforce laws, and promote order in the city.

Any attempt to intimidate or assault them will be met with the full force of the law. The arrest has been welcomed by community members and traffic authorities, who expressed concern about the growing need for compliance among operators in the transport sector. This action demonstrates the commitment of the LNP to uphold the rule of law and protect public officials carrying out their duties. The LNP further encourages the public to remain calm, cooperate with regulatory authorities, and report any violations or assaults against officers to ensure a safe and orderly environment for everyone.

The agency also reiterated that the operator will be processed through the judicial system, ensuring that justice is served, and that incidents of this nature are prevented in the future. The Liberia National Police calls upon all commercial vehicle operators to adhere strictly to the laws and regulations, emphasizing that safety, compliance, and respect for public officials are essential to the well-being of all Liberians.
