The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has commenced a three-day multi-year Budget Retreat at the Farmington Hotel in Margibi County, bringing together senior managers, departmental directors, and divisional heads for an intensive planning and forecasting session ahead of Fiscal Year 2026. The retreat is being held under the theme: “Strengthening Budget Planning and Secretariat Processes for FY 2026.” Leading the strategic exercise is LEC’s dynamic Managing Director, Mr. Mohammed M. Sherif, who emphasized the importance of sound financial planning and improved internal coordination in positioning the Corporation for long-term sustainability.
Mr. Sherif, pictured at the center during the divisional work session, reaffirmed that the retreat is a crucial component of LEC’s broader commitment to operational excellence and institutional strengthening. The Budget Retreat is designed to develop a comprehensive annual budget along with multi-year projections that reflect LEC’s priorities in delivering reliable, affordable, and accessible electricity services to the Liberian people. Participants are engaging in technical discussions on expenditure planning, revenue forecasting, project prioritization, and strategies for improving financial controls and resource allocation.
According to the Secretariat, the retreat forms part of LEC’s ongoing strategic re-visioning process, which aims to transform the Corporation into a financially sustainable and customer-focused institution. The process places strong emphasis on enhancing operational efficiency, enforcing good governance principles, and accelerating digital transformation across all levels of the organization. Speaking during the opening session, senior management underscored that effective budget planning is central to achieving LEC’s long-term goals, especially at a time when the demand for electricity continues to grow nationwide.
They highlighted the need for improved coordination among departments to ensure that financial decisions align with the Corporation’s broader development agenda. The three-day session is expected to produce a refined budget framework, strengthened Secretariat processes, and a clear roadmap for LEC’s operational priorities for FY 2026 and beyond. By fostering collaboration and accountability across departments, LEC aims to enhance its capacity to deliver on its mandate and meet the expectations of its customers and partners. The retreat continues through the week with detailed presentations, technical work sessions, and strategic consultations aimed at building a more efficient, well-governed, and future-ready Liberia Electricity Corporation.
