LEC Conducts Working Visit to Assess Progress on Liberia’s First Solar Farm

The Management of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), under the leadership of Managing Director Hon. Mohammed M. Sherif, has conducted a high-level working visit to the construction site of Liberia’s first-ever Solar Farm, a transformative energy project expected to be commissioned by the end of 2025. The visit, which took place recently, brought together key members of the LEC executive leadership, including the Deputy Managing Director for Administration, the Deputy Managing Director for Technical Services, and the Deputy Managing Director for Operations. The visit aimed to evaluate the ongoing progress of the project and engage with contractors and engineers to ensure the construction remains on track and within scope. Speaking at the site, Managing Director Sherif emphasized the importance of the Solar Farm to Liberia’s energy diversification and sustainability goals. “This project marks a bold step forward in Liberia’s transition to clean, renewable energy. Our visit today reaffirms LEC’s commitment to delivering affordable, reliable, and sustainable power to the Liberian people,” said Hon. Sherif. “We are pleased with the progress and are confident that we will meet our target for commissioning by December 2025.” The Solar Farm, which is located on the outskirts of Monrovia, is designed to supply clean, renewable energy to thousands of households and businesses. Once operational, the facility will significantly reduce dependence on fossil fuels and help mitigate the environmental impact of power generation in the country. The project also aligns with the Government of Liberia’s commitment to expanding access to energy under the national Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development. During the tour, the LEC team assessed the installation of solar panels, battery storage units, and grid integration systems, and held technical briefings with site engineers and project managers. Early findings indicate that the project is advancing steadily, with key infrastructure components nearing completion. The LEC Management also commended the support of development partners and contractors who have continued to work diligently to ensure quality and timely delivery. The Corporation reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, efficiency, and long-term energy planning. The LEC’s leadership team has pledged continued site monitoring and engagement to ensure the project remains a model for future renewable energy initiatives in Liberia and the West African region.
