The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia, Mme. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, concluded a successful official visit to the Republic of Serbia, where she held high-level bilateral talks with H.E. Aleksandar Vučić, President of Serbia, H.E. Marko Đurić, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Dejan Vuk Stanković, Minister of Education, H.E. Zoran Gajić, Minister of Sports of Serbia and Mr. Vladimir Orlic, Director of the Security Information Agency of Serbia. The visit marked a step in strengthening Liberia–Serbia relations.
The visit was sparked by an invitation from Serbia to the Minister of Foreign Affairs to finalize an agreement for Liberia’s participation in the upcoming EXPO 2027 which will be hosted by Serbia. Key Agreements and Outcomes 1. Sports Diplomacy In recognition of sports as a tool for youth empowerment and peacebuilding, Serbia agreed to: • Deploy a Serbian coach to support the Liberia National Football Team. • Facilitate exchanges and training programs for Liberian teams • Support school-level sports development and explore opportunities for a Sports Academy in Liberia. 2. Trade and Economic Cooperation Serbia pledged to dispatch a trade delegation to Liberia in the coming months to explore concrete opportunities in agriculture, health, infrastructure, and energy. This aligns with Liberia’s focus on economic diplomacy and private-sector driven growth. 3. EXPO 2027 Belgrade A major highlight of the visit was Serbia’s commitment to fully support Liberia’s participation in Specialized EXPO 2027 Belgrade.
Serbia pledged to cover: • Design, construction, and fit-out of Liberia’s national pavilion (including content creation, furnishing, and audiovisuals). • Operational costs, insurance, logistics, transport of exhibits, and staff support (including travel, accommodation, allowances, translation, and health insurance for Liberia’s Section Commissioner and two staff). • Celebration of Liberia’s National Day at EXPO 2027, covering travel and accommodation for senior officials, artists, and media, and organizing a gala lunch. • Public relations and marketing support, including PR campaigns and digital promotional materials. Both sides agreed to also promote sports and cultural exchanges between teams, artists, and musicians in line with EXPO 2027’s theme. 4. Education and Scholarships Serbia committed to awarding 20 new scholarships to Liberian students in priority fields including Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture, and ICT.
Both sides emphasized that academic exchanges will deepen ties and help build the skilled workforce needed to support Liberia’s economic transformation agenda. 5. Political and Multilateral Cooperation President Vučić in the courtesy call paid by Minister Nyanti, congratulated Liberia on its election to the UN Security Council (2026–2027), pledging Serbia’s continued support for Liberia’s multilateral agenda and advocacy on permanent seats for Africa in the UNSC. 6. Security Building on the existing relationship between the National Security Agencies of Liberia and Serbia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs met with Mr. Vladimir Orlic, Director of the Security Information Agency of Serbia and held discussions on deepening cooperation in peace, stability and information exchange.
Minister Nyanti described the visit as a “successful and encouraging,” emphasizing that these renewed commitments represent not only goodwill but also actionable partnerships that will deliver tangible benefits for the people of Liberia. Both governments reaffirmed their commitment to sustained dialogue and regular high-level engagements, ensuring that these agreements are fully implemented and contribute to shared prosperity, youth empowerment, and strengthened global cooperation.
