The Dean and Head of Department (H.O.D.) of the Nursing Department at the Liberia International Christian College (LICC), Mrs. Nora Q. Keah, has disclosed that the institution recently underwent a successful follow-up assessment conducted by the Liberia Board for Nursing and Midwifery, the regulatory body responsible for overseeing nursing education in Liberia. Speaking to reporters at her office in Ganta, Mrs. Nora explained that the LICC Nursing Department was accredited in August 2024, prompting the Board’s return visit to ensure that the standards for which the school was accredited were still being met.
“The Liberia Board for Nursing and Midwifery, which regulates nursing and midwifery education in Liberia, accredited us in August 2024,” Mrs. Nora stated. “Whenever accreditation is granted, the Board conducts a follow-up to ensure that the standards for which the institution was approved remain in place and that teaching aligns with the approved curriculum.” According to her, the assessment team was highly impressed with the institution’s performance, teaching processes, and overall learning environment.
She noted that despite having nearly 30 years of experience in the nursing field, this year’s assessment brought new and positive developments, including the Board’s directive for students to begin clinicals while planning for capping. The Board visited LICC’s main campus on October 22 for the QA assessment and its primary clinical site, E&J Hospital, on October 23. Mrs. Nora revealed that the preliminary report highlighted both strengths and areas requiring improvement, with commendations for the warm reception and strong campus–hospital collaboration. LICC’s Nursing Department earned an impressive 98% score for theoretical instruction, while E&J Hospital scored 94% for clinical training both rated “A” during the accreditation in August 2024.
Mrs. Nora Keah expressed optimism that the department will either maintain or surpass these marks when the Board returns in 2027 for another review. Looking ahead, she hopes to see the nursing program continue to grow stronger and uphold excellence as she serves in her role as Dean. “We are proud of what we have achieved. LICC has the expertise and capacity to deliver results in nursing,” she concluded. The Liberia International Christian College (LICC), located in Ganta City, Nimba County, was established in 2008 by the United Liberia Inland Church Associates and Friends (ULICAF) and the United Liberia Inland Church (ULIC).
The college commenced its full curriculum of classes on March 2, 2009. Initially offering only associate degrees, LICC was accredited to offer bachelor’s degrees in October 2020. Since its establishment, LICC has graduated over 2,000 students across its four academic departments: Agriculture, Business, Theology, and Education. This milestone reflects the institution’s commitment to providing quality, practical, and faith-based higher education in rural Liberia. The college is currently under the leadership of Dr. Nuwoe-James Kiamu, serving as president. Today, students can choose from five academic programs: Agriculture, Business, Education, Nursing, and Theology.
