The Liberia National Police (LNP) has arrested a man believed to be one of the masterminds behind a violent gang that has been terrorizing residents across Monrovia and surrounding communities. The suspect, identified only as “Alaba,” was apprehended over the weekend in the New Georgia Estate area following a well-coordinated police operation based on credible intelligence. Reports from Crime Watch Night Time Radio indicate that the suspect was found in possession of several dangerous weapons, including cutlasses and firearms, at the time of his arrest.

According to preliminary police findings, Alaba is alleged to be a key figure within a motorbike-riding gang linked to a series of armed robberies, violent assaults, and nighttime attacks that have plagued residents in Monrovia’s northern suburbs. The gang is notorious for using cutlasses and live ammunition to rob unsuspecting civilians, leaving several victims wounded in past incidents. Communities such as Johnsonville, Gardnersville, and New Georgia have in recent months reported an alarming surge in criminal activity, prompting repeated calls for stronger police action.

Residents have expressed relief at the news of the arrest but continue to urge the LNP to intensify its pursuit of other gang members believed to still be at large. “This is a good start, but the police need to go after the rest of the group,” said a resident of Gardnersville. “For too long, we have lived in fear because of these gangs who attack people at night.” While the LNP has not yet issued an official press statement on the matter, sources within the Force describe the arrest as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle organized street gangs operating in Monrovia.

Investigations are continuing to identify additional suspects and recover stolen items linked to recent attacks. The LNP has reassured the public of its commitment to restoring safety and public confidence, urging citizens to continue cooperating with law enforcement authorities by providing timely information on suspicious activities.
