The Monrovia City Police (MCP) has launched a full-scale investigation into a violent eruption that occurred during a traditional wedding ceremony in Sinkor on Saturday, leaving officers injured and property damaged. According to a statement released by the Administration of the Monrovia City Police, the incident unfolded on September 6, 2025, when the MCP received a noise complaint from a resident in the 24th Street area.

The resident alleged that loud music from a wedding ceremony had disturbed the neighborhood for several hours. A unit of MCP officers was dispatched to the location and initially persuaded the event hosts to reduce the music volume. However, minutes later, a second complaint was lodged after the music reportedly increased again. A second police unit was sent to the scene, where officers’ request to lower the music was rejected by the hosts. Citing Liberia’s Environmental Law on noise regulations, which empowers City Police to seize or impound equipment causing public disturbances, officers began removing the PA system.

This enforcement action sparked resistance, as multiple individuals at the wedding allegedly attacked the officers. The altercation resulted in two officers sustaining injuries, including a head laceration and bruises to the arm. Their uniforms were also damaged in the scuffle. Police reported that the confiscated PA system was later forcefully removed from the MCP pickup truck by the event host. Backup units were called in to restore calm, eventually dispersing the crowd.

The MCP described the matter as a serious breach of public order and confirmed that an investigation is underway. “We have launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter, and the public will be informed once it is completed,” the statement noted. The Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) has meanwhile urged residents to comply with noise regulations and avoid confrontations with law enforcement officers while investigations continue.
