The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Hon. Magdalene Dagoseh, has announced the launch of a nationwide inspection exercise aimed at enforcing the recent directive of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.,following pronouncement on the reductions of the prices of rice and other flour. Speaking in Monrovia Thursday, September 4, 2025, Minister Dagoseh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that Liberians have access to affordable and fairly priced goods, particularly rice, which remains the nation’s staple food.
“Well, following President Joseph Boakai’s directive to reduce the prices of rice and other essential commodities, I am leading a nationwide inspection starting today to ensure that these new prices are properly implemented,” Minister Dagoseh stated. She emphasized that the goal of the inspection exercise is straightforward: to protect consumers from unfair pricing practices and create a level playing field for all Liberians. “Our goal is simple: to protect consumers from unfair pricing and make basic goods affordable for every household.
We will be visiting markets, shops, and suppliers across the country. Anyone found overcharging will face serious consequences,” the Minister warned. Minister Dagoseh said the Ministry of Commerce and Industry will deploy inspectors and monitoring teams to key marketplaces, border entry points, retail shops, and major suppliers to ensure compliance. She stressed that the exercise is not intended to intimidate businesses but to guarantee that government’s price reduction policy is fully enforced for the benefit of the Liberian people.
She called on businesses, traders, and consumers to cooperate fully with the inspection teams. “Together, we can create a fair and transparent market that works for all Liberians. I ask for your support and cooperation during this important process,” Minister Dagoseh added. The Ministry reiterated its unwavering determination to safeguard the welfare of consumers while maintaining fair trade practices across Liberia.
