The Ministry of Agriculture wishes to clarify recent reports suggesting that Minister Alexander Nuetah announced plans to dismiss District Agriculture Officers (DAOs) based on political recommendations. This is not accurate. At the Extension Conference in Ganta, the Minister spoke about strengthening professionalism and accountability in the extension system. He reminded officers, no matter how they were hired, of their duty to provide consistent support to farmers.
His message was about improving performance, not dismissing staff. The Minister also addressed concerns about some officers not being regularly present in the field. To improve service delivery, he noted that future recruitment will prioritize officers who live in the counties where they serve. This will help ensure stronger community engagement and more reliable support for farmers. At no time did the Minister say that DAOs would be dismissed simply because they were recommended.
His focus remains on building a stronger, more effective extension service that supports President Boakai’s agenda for agricultural transformation and food security. The Ministry remains committed to supporting farmers and strengthening Liberia’s agriculture sector.
