Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah appeared before the Senate Committee on Ways, Means, Finance & Budget, presenting strong FY2025 results and outlining urgent priorities for FY2026. She reported a 92% budget execution rate, including 98% for employee compensation and 82% for goods and services, reflecting disciplined financial management in a challenging fiscal environment.
The Ministry strengthened regulatory enforcement, issuing 2,445 school permits and advancing compliance checks nationwide. Under the Public Sector Investment Program, US$4.7 million supported school expansion, feeding, and monitoring, while procurement moved forward to increase classroom seating through the “One Student, One Chair” initiative. The Minister also highlighted the procurement of 22,000 STEM kits, the ratification of the EXCEL Project, and the removal of 1,053 ghost names, which enabled the placement of over 2,000 volunteer teachers.
Dr. Jallah requested an additional US$40 million to complete teacher deployment, strengthen county staffing, and improve school monitoring, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to delivering quality, equitable education for every Liberian child.
