The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) has announced a series of milestone developments aimed at strengthening Liberia’s fisheries sector and improving staff welfare, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable management and institutional growth. Speaking during NaFAA’s September 26, 2025, Monthly Staff Meeting held on Friday, the Deputy Director General for Administration, Hon. Augustine M. Manoballah, revealed that construction of NaFAA’s new four-floor multipurpose headquarters is progressing steadily, with the design phase nearing completion and procurement for the recruitment of a construction firm expected to begin in January 2026 .
The new facility will serve as a central hub for fisheries management while providing a modern and efficient work environment. Hon. Manoballah further disclosed that Liberia’s first semi-industrial fishing vessel, the “Sea King,” is scheduled to arrive in the third week of October 2025, a development set to boost local fish production, reduce reliance on imports, and create new employment opportunities, with the procurement process underway to select a private sector operator under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement. As part of efforts to enhance staff welfare and productivity, NaFAA will also take delivery of its first staff bus in October 2025, aimed at easing employee transportation challenges and improving overall efficiency.
The meeting additionally featured updates from the Deputy Director General for Technical Services, Hon. William Y. Boeh, and Senior Directors, who reported progress on various technical, regulatory, and developmental initiatives designed to strengthen fisheries governance and promote aquaculture expansion. In recognition of exemplary service, the Department of Human Resources named Miss Beautrice Newland, a Sanitary Inspector assigned to the Research and Statistics Department at Roberts International Airport (RIA), as Employee of the Month for September 2025. Reaffirming its vision, NaFAA underscored its dedication to sustainably managing and developing Liberia’s fisheries sector while continuing to invest in staff capacity, institutional growth, and innovative infrastructure critical steps toward building a robust and inclusive Blue Economy for Liberia.
