The National Transit Authority (NTA) is pleased to announce the arrival of the first thirty-five (35) brand-new buses out of a total fleet of sixty (60) vehicles being procured under a contractual agreement between ABK Motors Incorporated and the National Transit Authority. This significant milestone marks a major step forward in the NTA’s ongoing efforts to enhance Liberia’s public transportation system and provide safe, efficient, and affordable transport services to citizens across the country.

According to a release from the NTA, during its January 2025 sitting, the Board of Directors approved and authorized management through a formal resolution to finalize and execute an agreement with ABK Motors Incorporated for the procurement and delivery of: 35 brand-new TATA mass transit buses (62-seater) 20 mini-buses (18-seater) 5 heavy-duty cargo trucks This initiative, the Authority noted, is designed to strengthen its operational capacity and expand service coverage nationwide.

The inclusion of cargo-handling trucks represents a historic first for the NTA, marking the introduction of a new dimension in its service delivery portfolio allowing the agency to support both passenger and logistics transport. The arrival of the first 35 buses underscores the Boakai administration’s commitment to modernizing Liberia’s transport infrastructure and improving mobility for the Liberian people. Once deployed, these new buses will immediately help ease commuting challenges, reduce congestion, and ensure the movement of people and goods across urban and rural areas.

Speaking on the milestone, an NTA spokesperson described the new fleet as “a tangible demonstration of government’s dedication to improving the daily lives of Liberians through accessible and efficient public transportation.” The Authority further expressed confidence that the additional 20 mini-buses and 5 cargo trucks, expected in the coming months, will bring even greater flexibility and reach to NTA’s operations. In addition to expanding transport capacity, the new vehicles will help create employment opportunities for Liberians in the areas of fleet management, maintenance, logistics, and service operations—thereby contributing to national economic growth.

The NTA reaffirmed its commitment to upholding high service and safety standards while maintaining affordable transport fares for commuters. It also extended appreciation to the Government of Liberia for its continued support and partnership in building a more connected and mobile nation. “This milestone reflects the government’s clear vision to modernize public transport, enhance accessibility, and improve the overall commuting experience for every Liberian,” the statement concluded.
